Purpose of this Risk Warning
SeyCareers is an online platform that connects jobseekers and employers in Seychelles, allowing employers to advertise vacancies and jobseekers to build a profile, submit applications and communicate with employers.
SeyCareers does not guarantee employment, recruitment outcomes or that any interview, offer or hire will result from using the platform. We do not guarantee the legitimacy, conduct or intentions of any user, employer, jobseeker or other third party and we do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any information supplied by users, including job posts, company information, profiles, CVs and messages.
SeyCareers provides a platform for recruitment activity but does not act as the employer, recruitment agent or representative of employers or jobseekers using the platform.
This Risk Warning explains common recruitment risks, what SeyCareers does and does not do to help address them and the steps you should take to protect yourself. It should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions and Acceptable Use Policy.
Recruitment Fraud and Scams
Like any platform that brings jobseekers and employers together, SeyCareers can be targeted by individuals seeking to abuse the recruitment process for fraudulent purposes. Common examples include:
- fake job vacancies that do not lead to genuine employment
- fraudulent recruiters or agencies posing as legitimate employers
- impersonation of real companies, using similar names, logos or contact details
- fake employment offers sent to create a false sense of urgency or trust
- requests for money, fees or personal information disguised as part of a recruitment process.
Recruitment fraud can be sophisticated and convincing. Approach any unexpected, unusually generous or urgent job offer with caution, regardless of how professional it appears.
Never Pay to Obtain a Job
A request for payment in order to apply for, obtain or secure a job is a significant warning sign.
Be cautious of any individual or organisation that asks you to pay, transfer or provide:
- a recruitment or application fee
- a deposit or refundable "processing" payment
- payment for training, certification, equipment or uniforms as a condition of employment
- a bank transfer to a personal or unfamiliar account
- payment by cryptocurrency
- payment by gift card or voucher codes
- any other payment as a condition of being interviewed, hired or onboarded.
If you are asked to make a payment of this kind, treat it as a serious warning sign and stop communicating until you have independently confirmed the legitimacy of the request.
Personal and Financial Information
Do not share sensitive personal or financial information with anyone claiming to be an employer or recruiter unless you are confident the request is genuine and necessary.
You should not unnecessarily disclose:
- account passwords or login credentials
- online banking usernames, passwords or credentials
- debit or credit card numbers, expiry dates or security codes
- PINs
- one-time passwords, authentication codes or two-factor authentication codes
- copies of identification documents, unless you are confident they are genuinely required and the recipient is legitimate.
A legitimate employer will not usually need this information to consider your application, invite you to interview or make you an offer. If in doubt, do not provide it.
Verify Employers and Opportunities
Before accepting a job offer, sharing personal information or making any commitment, we encourage you to independently verify:
- the identity of the employer and any individual you are dealing with
- the company's official contact details, such as a published phone number or office address
- the company's website and domain, checking for inconsistencies with the details shown on SeyCareers
- the details of the job offer itself, including role, salary, location and start date
- the identity of any recruiter or agency acting on the employer's behalf
- the terms of employment being offered, ideally in a written contract.
Information displayed on SeyCareers, including company profiles and job posts, should not be treated as independent confirmation that an employer, vacancy or individual is genuine. It reflects information provided to us, which we do not independently verify unless expressly stated otherwise.
Unless we expressly state otherwise, users should not assume that SeyCareers has independently verified an employer's identity, a job vacancy, an applicant's qualifications or information provided by another user.
Communications Outside SeyCareers
Recruitment conversations that begin on SeyCareers may move to other channels, such as WhatsApp, personal email or social media. While this is common in ordinary recruitment, it also removes some of the context and history available on the platform.
Exercise additional caution once a conversation moves outside SeyCareers, particularly where:
- you are asked to move the conversation off-platform quickly, before any genuine recruitment discussion has taken place
- the tone, urgency or requests change once communication moves elsewhere
- you are asked for money, payment details or sensitive information through these channels.
We are not able to monitor, and are not responsible for, the content of communications that take place outside SeyCareers.
Job Offers and Employment Decisions
SeyCareers does not make hiring decisions, employment offers or determinations about who is or is not suitable for a role. Employers are solely responsible for their own recruitment decisions, offers and the terms of employment they propose.
You are responsible for assessing any opportunity, offer, contract or representation made to you and for deciding whether to proceed. Where appropriate, seek independent advice before accepting an offer or entering into an employment contract.
Guidance for Jobseekers
As a jobseeker, remain alert to:
- vacancies that seem too good to be true, such as unusually high pay for minimal qualifications or experience
- recruiters who are evasive about the company they represent, the interview process or the role itself
- pressure to make a fast decision, provide payment or disclose sensitive information
- offers made without any form of interview or genuine assessment.
Guidance for Employers
As an employer, remain alert to:
- applicants providing false identities or impersonating another individual
- CVs, qualifications or references that appear inaccurate, inconsistent or fabricated
- misleading information provided during the application or interview process
- attempts to use the recruitment process to gain access to company information or systems.
Be cautious of applicants who request payments, attempt to obtain sensitive company information or ask for access to systems or accounts unrelated to the recruitment process.
You remain responsible for verifying the information provided by applicants to the extent you consider necessary for your own recruitment process.
Reporting Suspicious Activity
If you encounter a suspected fake vacancy, fraudulent recruiter, impersonation, suspicious message or other suspected misuse of SeyCareers, please report it.
Messages and conversations on the platform can be reported directly using the report option available within the conversation. For any other concern, including a suspicious job post, company profile or account, please contact SeyCareers using the contact information provided on the platform, with as much detail as possible so we can review the information and take such action as we consider appropriate under our policies and applicable law.
No Guarantee and Limitation of Liability
SeyCareers takes reasonable measures to operate the platform responsibly and to address misuse when it is identified or reported to us. However, we cannot guarantee that every user, employer, vacancy, application, communication or piece of information on the platform is genuine, accurate, complete or safe.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and as set out in our Terms & Conditions, SeyCareers is not liable for losses arising from fraudulent, misleading or unlawful conduct by users or third parties, recruitment decisions or employment outcomes or the accuracy of information submitted by users of the platform.
If You Suspect You Have Been a Victim of Fraud
If you believe you have encountered fraud, or have already shared money or sensitive information with someone you now believe to be fraudulent, we recommend that you:
- stop communicating with the individual or organisation involved
- do not send any further money, payment details or personal information
- keep records of relevant messages, job posts, emails and payment details as evidence
- contact your bank or financial institution immediately if you have shared financial information or made a payment
- report the matter to the appropriate police or law enforcement authority in your jurisdiction
- report the activity to SeyCareers using the contact information provided on the platform, so we can review the account or job post involved.
