Manage Your References

Last Updated: September 2026

Saving a reference

You can save professional references to your SeyCareers profile so they're ready to reuse whenever you apply for a job. Each saved reference records their name, job title, organisation, phone number, email and your relationship to them (for example, Former Manager, Supervisor or Colleague).

Before adding a reference, make sure you have that person's permission to provide their contact details to prospective employers.

Saved references are private and they're not visible to employers, or to anyone else, simply because they're saved on your profile.

Editing or deleting a reference

You can edit or delete any of your saved references at any time from your References page.

Including references with an application

When you apply for a job, you can choose which of your saved references, if any, to include with that application. References are optional and are never selected automatically. Only the references you actively select for a particular application are shared with that employer.

Including references on your CV

You can also choose which of your saved references to include on your generated SeyCareers CV.

When adding or editing a reference, select Include on my CV if you want that reference to appear on your CV. References are not included on your CV by default.

You can change this selection at any time. Only references you have selected for inclusion will appear on your generated CV.

Privacy and application records

A saved reference stays private unless you choose to submit it with an application or include it on your CV. Once you submit an application with references selected, those reference details are copied onto that application, so the information you shared stays associated with it going forward.
